Earlier this week, New York editor (and former SPIN staffer!) David Marchese published an excellent interview with David Letterman, who is now happily retired and brimming with thoughts about the state of the world. It’s a great piece, and you can read it here, but the sight of Letterman’s beaming wizard face on the cover prompted Michael Stipe to point out something very amusing: The former late night host and former R.E.M. singer look totally alike now.
As Stipe said, “so fucked up.” Watch R.E.M. make their TV debut on Letterman’s show in 1983:
