Jay Z and the Weinstein Company Are Making a Film and TV Documentary About Trayvon Martin’s Death

The Weinstein Company and Jay Z are working on two major projects with Jay about the murder of Trayvon Martin, Variety reports. Jay Z will produce a six-part docu-series about Martin’s shooting, with a feature film to follow. The projects come as the company has secured the rights to two books written about the incident–Suspicion Nation: The Inside Story of the Trayvon Martin Injustice and Why We Continue to Repeat It by NBC reporter Lisa Bloom and Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, a memoir co-written by Martin’s parents Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. No further details have been given about the projects.

Last September, Jay signed a two-year contract with the Weinsteins to collaborate on television and film projects together. The Weinsteins and Mr. Carter recently produced TIME: The Kalief Browder Story–a six-part docu-series that is currently airing on Spike TV, in which Jay Z also appears as a talking head.
