Kanye West‘s reputation still hasn’t recovered after dyeing his hair blonde and meeting up with Donald Trump. G.O.O.D. Music president Pusha T at least tried to talk him out of the latter, according to a new interview. Last week, the pusher-turned-executive spoke to DC’s Fam In The Morning, where he talked about his upcoming solo album (which should be out in spring), if that new ‘Ye album is still on the way, and why Clipse didn’t reunite for Hell Hath No Fury‘s 10th anniversary in 2016. (Co-member Malice wasn’t feeling it, Pusha said.)
Though those updates are well and good, Pusha T’s commentary on West’s Trump visit was obviously more interesting. “This is not the first thing me and Kanye disagreed on. We disagree on a lot,” said Pusha T, who notably became Hillary Clinton’s surrogate late in the campaign.
According to Pusha, they talked before West made his fated trip to Trump Tower. “I was like, ‘Man, there ain’t nothing to go talk about.’ But he has a perspective—and we were definitely polar opposites—but he was like, ‘Man, you gotta talk. We gotta talk. And there’s some things that I want to get across in regards to education’ and so on and so forth. He’s like ‘Bro, he’s in there. We either gotta communicate or we ain’t gonna be heard.’ So that was his stance on it. My stance on it was, ‘Listen… I can’t do it.’”
It doesn’t look like West’s plan worked: He removed his Trump-supportive tweets after reportedly disapproving of the president’s executive actions during his first weeks in office. Watch the Pusha T exchange, which starts around the 5:18 mark, below.
