New Music: The Jesus & Mary Chain – “Always Sad”

The Jesus & Mary Chain have released the second single from their upcoming album Damage and Joy, their first in 19 years. The track, “Always Sad,” premiered on Steve Lamacq’s BBC Radio 6 show yesterday, as did the band’s previous single “Amputation.”

“Always Sad” is musically sunny and upbeat, with a chugging, early rock’n’roll-style backbeat, but Jim Reid, who trades off lead duties with an unidentified female vocalist, spends most of the song grappling with the sorry truth that he’ll probably “always be sad.” Listen below. Damage and Joy is out March 24 via ADA/Warner Music; check out some preorder options at the band’s online store.
