Much is made of a new president’s first 100 days in office, when an incoming commander in chief—usually riding a wave of public support—tackles top priorities. In the case of Donald Trump, those first 100 days look downright alarming: ramping up deportations, withdrawing from trade partnerships, selecting a new mega-conservative Supreme Court justice, and attempting to build a border wall. Our First 100 Days, a newly announced subscription project from Bloomington, Indiana’s Secretly label group and the creators of pre-election anti-Trump project 30 Days, 30 Songs, aims to give you a decent soundtrack for reading the alarming headlines ahead.
For a minimum $30 contribution, subscribers will receive one song per day from artists including Angel Olsen, Mitski, Toro Y Moi, How to Dress Well, Whitney, the Range, PWR BTTM, Wild Nothing, Mountain Goats, Twin Peaks, and more. Profits will benefit a selection of organizations dedicated to causes threatened by the incoming administration, including LGBTQ rights, immigration, abortion access, climate change, and community organizing in Indiana.
30 Days, 30 Songs didn’t exactly stop Trump from being elected, but there’s sure to be some good music from the 100 Days project nonetheless. Other participating artists announced thus far include Tim Heidecker, Bully, S. Carey, Will Oldham (a.k.a. Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy), Beach Fossils, Jens Lekman, Cherry Glazerr, Strand of Oaks, Minus the Bear, Into It. Over It., Eluvium, Torres, Holy Sons, Rob Crow, Sam Amidon, Wild Nothing, Animal Collective’s Avey Tare, Bill Fay, Mal Devisa, Antlers’ Peter Silberman, Meat Wave, Courtney Marie Andrews, Mountain Man, Nap Eyes and Nothing.
