Tom Cruise Just Posted a Teaser for the New Mummy Movie

Tom Cruise is back with a big announcement, just in time to distract from Leah Remini’s controversial new Scientology-expose series and the smarmy disappointment that was the recent Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. He’s just tweeted a teaser for the reboot of The Mummy. It’s actually a teaser for a trailer that is being released on Sunday, but it tells us a lot in just fifteen seconds: This time along, the intricately-CGI’d mummy will be a woman, and Russell Crowe is going to be pursuing her alongside Cruise.

Perhaps you think it’s a bit early for a new Mummy series? After all, the Brendan-Fraser-starring version of the franchise–which originated in the 1930s, with the Boris Karloff-starring horror film–released its last theatrical film, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, in 2008. But now with Cruise, Crowe, and Courtney B. Vance on-board—as well as in the co-writer of the totally-insane Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the director’s chair—the inimitable tale of Egyptian intrigue and dark magic has another chance to possibly, maybe shine.

“I saw her. She is real,” Cruise whispers in the trailer. Hold onto your butts, Mummy fans! Watch below.
