National Alliance on Mental Illness Accuses Nicki Minaj of Mocking Mentally Ill Woman on Instagram

Yesterday, Nicki Minaj posted a video to Instagram of an unidentified woman in Miami, who stands on the sidewalk, drinking from a blue cup and smoking a cigarette. In the video, the woman shouts something at Minaj’s car before walking away. “What you said? Miss? C’mere… What did I do?,” Minaj says as the woman trails off.

Minaj appears to have posted the video for entertainment; she captioned it with a laughing-crying emoji, and she starts laughing toward the end. In the comments on Minaj’s videos, several users claimed they’ve seen the same woman around Miami, and that she’s known for approaching strangers. As such, it’s thought the woman may be mentally ill, and Minaj’s mocking tone drew criticism from the local chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. “Nobody would make fun of a cancer patient, and mental illness is an illness like any other,” NAMI-Miami told TMZ.

Minaj has yet to respond to the criticism. See her original Instagram video and TMZ’s preserved version below.
