Ty Dolla $ign has a little something new for the fans before closing out the busiest year of his still-burgeoning career. (Recently, his megahit with Fifth Harmony, “Work From Home,” was crowned the most viewed music video of the year.) “Back Up,” not yet tied to any upcoming project, is a collage of Ty’s traditionally spare flow, handclaps building the sexual tension to its apex in the hook, plenty of third-person references, and slinking electric piano. It’s a musical balm for sure, if you like ruthlessly lurid R&B that is.
