At 84 Years Old, Loretta Lynn Just Smoked Weed for the Very First Time

Country legend Loretta Lynn first found major success in the 1960s, and recorded many of her biggest hits at the height of the hippie era. Her latest album, Full Circle, closes with a duet with the weed hero and fellow country icon Willie Nelson, with whom she sometimes shared a stage in the ’80s. Despite all this, Lynn herself had never toked up until this year, she told People in a recent interview.

Lynn is an absolute treasure—”I ain’t going to do no exercise! I hate exercise!” she exclaims at another point in the interview—and her description of what it was like getting high is fantastic:

“I got glaucoma and they gave me one of these cigarettes,” she tells PEOPLE. “I took one smoke off of it and it hit me right here in the chest. I like to have died! Glaucoma is just going to have to take over.”

Sit back, take one smoke off of your cigarette, and enjoy Lynn challenging her romantic rivals to a fight and telling them they look like garbage on “Fist City,” from 1968. We don’t deserve her.
