Watch Killer Mike Discuss Trump’s Win on The Real

Atlanta rapper Killer Mike—an espoused Democratic Socialist—has been one of the loudest political voices in the music community throughout this election season. After making several public appearances with Bernie Sanders, he remained active on social media, encouraging angry voters to boycott the presidential election entirely if they felt so inclined.

This morning, he appeared on NBC/BET’s The Real to offer his analysis of yesterday’s election. He was critical of the Democratic party for overlooking and underestimating certain demographics (lower-class workers, especially) in America. He also expressed his mortification that the Democratic platform, which he found to be unsatisfactory when it came to speaking to the interests of disenfranchised people, had forced POC voters to Trump’s side. He told the panel:

“I think that people who look like all the people on this panel…black, brown, and all types of hues in between…I think that we have been used by a party to the liberal side that once enacted, and once in office, has not enacted policy that was reflective of stuff that would bring our communities up, so I think poor people got angry, and I think that there just happen to be, by this country, more poor angry white people.”
