Video: Remembering Sharon Jones’s Electric Live Performances

Last night, we were saddened to learn that funk and soul singer Sharon Jones had died at age 60 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. As frontwoman of Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Jones was an electric live performer with impeccable timing and an instantly likable, larger-than-life presence. Today, we’re remembering Jones and revisiting a few videos that capture the power and energy she brought to stages large and small.

Below, find video of Jones and the Dap-Kings covering “This Land Is Your Land” on Belgian television in 2014, playing with Hall & Oates’ Daryl Hall for his Live at Daryl’s House web series in 2010, performing a full-length concert at the Olympia in Paris in 2014, and recording an intimate, holiday-themed set for NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series in December 2015. Throughout, Jones is accompanied by the Dap-Kings and her longtime backup singers, Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan Lowe.
