New Music: Imaginary People – “Snapshot”

New York City’s Imaginary People write harrowing post-punk that’s equal parts nightmarish and danceable. Last year, the quintet put out their debut album, Dead Letterbox. Their next record, October Alice, is set for release in February. The album, which was recorded in a barn upstate, was produced by Kevin McMahon, who has previously worked with Swans, Titus Andronicus, and Real Estate.

The band has also shared their first single, “Snapshot,” which they describe as “what it might feel like to imagine the revenge killing of the man that murdered you.” It’s an apt description, as the track conjures images of ghouls lurking in dark alleyways, as well as strobe lights flickering on the dance floor.
