Laura Marling Announces New Album Semper Femina, Shares “Soothing” Video

Laura Marling has announced the release of her latest album, Semper Femina, which will arrive March 10 via her label More Alarming. Semper Femina is her first full-length since Short Movies, released in 2015.

Marling also released the video for “Soothing,” via the Fader. It features an extended sequence of two dancers clad in latex, moving across a plain white bed sheet. “Oh my hopeless wanderer, you can’t come in, you don’t live here anymore,” Marling sings over a sparse arrangement led by upright bass.

“I started out writing Semper Femina as if a man was writing about a woman,” Marling told the Fader. “And then I thought it’s not a man, it’s me — I don’t need to pretend it’s a man to justify the intimacy of the way I’m looking and feeling about women. It’s me looking specifically at women and feeling great empathy towards them and by proxy towards myself.”
