A New Andrea Bocelli Biopic That Stars Antonio Banderas Is on the Way

The prospect of an Andrea Bocelli biopic might sound weird, but the Italian singer did sell just under 100 million records, making him one of the most popular classical crossover artists of all time, and the story of his life and career as a blind opera prodigy is pretty unusual, incredible stuff. Italian production company AMBI is helming the project, and today, The Hollywood Reporter reports that Antonio Banderas is set to star.

The film, which will be directed by Michael Radford (best known for Il Postino), will take an unusual format, since it is an autobiographical fiction, apparently told by Bocelli himself. The young-Bocelli stand-in, “Amos,” will be played by Tony Sebastian, who is best known as Trystane Martell on Game of Thrones (here’s a pic if you don’t know any of the names). Banderas will play his mentor, named (naturally) Maestro.

It’s unclear if Bocelli will provide voiceover narration, as THR‘s report might imply, but he did collaborate on the screenplay. The movie will also contain never-before-heard songs written by Bocelli, who was also a composer who won major songwriting competitions as a teenager growing up in Pisa.
