Last week, Lauryn Hill performed at this year’s TIDAL X showcase and shared a reworked version of her song “I Find It Hard to Say (Rebel)” on the streaming service. Yesterday, Hill and her band appeared on Charlie Rose to perform the new arrangement, which is called “Rebel/I Find It Hard to Say (Version).”
“Rebel” was originally written in memory of Amadou Diallo, an unarmed African man who was shot and killed by New York City police officers in 1999. The song first appeared on the 2002 album MTV Unplugged No. 2.o. “Old tune, new Version, same context, even more relevant now,” Hill previously wrote on Twitter. Watch her latest performance below.
