Video: Lambchop – “NIV”

Sometimes, the best music videos may not even treat the song itself as the primary focus. Lambchop have joined in this rich tradition with their excellent extended clip for the song “NIV,” from their upcoming album FLOTUS. (An antecedent would be tour mate Yo La Tengo’s inimitable, David-Cross-starring “Sugarcube” clip.)

Lambchop’s clip is a mini-documentary by director Elise Tyler which captures scenes in the life of a homeless couple in the band’s hometown of Nashville. Amber and Matthew Bible bounce back and forth from a tent to cheap motels while they prepare for the birth of their child. The video ends with information about Open Table Nashville, an organization which sets up which assists the homeless in the city.
