See Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in the First Trailer for Jackie

If you’ve not been following this year’s Oscar buzz closely, take note: Chilean director Pablo Larraín cast Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in his new historical drama Jackie, and early reviewers were awed. The film’s first trailer arrived today, and now it is your turn to be awed by someone who looks like Natalie Portman, but acts and sounds awfully like Jackie Kennedy.

The teaser opens with a quote from the musical Camelot, a myth the late First Lady invoked in a Life magazine interview after John F. Kennedy’s assassination; Larraín adopted that interview as source material for the film. The preview shows Jackie in happy moments—with her young family, hosting her famous tour of the White House—and in her darkest: cradling JFK’s crumpled body in the open car and washing off his blood in the shower.

Jackie also stars Greta Gerwig, Peter Sarsgaard, Max Casella, Beth Grant, and Billy Crudup. It debuts in the U.S. at the New York Film Festival on October 13 and opens in select theaters on December 2. Watch the trailer below.
