Who’d have thought 10 years ago that Stephen Colbert would introduce Pusha T as a “social activist” on a CBS late-night show? Well, that’s what happened last night: Colbert invited the G.O.O.D. Music president to talk about a decent range of topics, including Clipse’s most famous song (“Grindin,” of course), writing the rap version of the McDonald’s “I’m Lovin’ It” jingle, his endorsement of Hillary Clinton, and an issue close to his heart: the country’s cruel treatment of felons.
“I definitely feel she’ll keep carrying on [Obama’s] legacy,” Pusha T said, referencing Obama’s stance against mass incarceration. “That’s the most important issue to me simply because I feel that’s the most important issue tearing apart our community right now.”
He continued, explaining some of the challenges faced by ex-convicts: “You can’t vote. You can’t get grants. It’s like you keep paying forever. We have to change that.”
And although Pusha T is on Clinton’s side, he revealed that he’s only met the candidate through Facetime. Elsewhere in their discussion, Pusha and Colbert talked about some topics that have already been public for some time: that the Neptunes were going to give the “Grindin” beat to Jay Z and the specifics as to Pusha’s brief relationship with McDonald’s.
