New Music: Filthy Friends (R.E.M.’s Peter Buck, Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker) – “Despierata”

Recently, R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker have been playing with Scott McCaughey, Bill Rieflin, and Kurt Bloch in a group called Filthy Friends. Up til now they hadn’t released any recordings, but that changes with “Despierata,” Filthy Friends’ contribution to the ongoing anti-Trump music project 30 Days 30 Songs. “The whitest jock on this land is about to disappear,” Tucker sings. “Holding on to the past won’t make it repeat / It’s time to get up, I think you’re in my seat.”

R.E.M. previously contributed a live version of “World Leader Pretend” to the 30 Days project. Listen to Filthy Friends’ “Despierata” below.
