On “Walk Right Back,” the first single from Jamie Lidell’s forthcoming album Building a Beginning, the postmodern soul man yearns openly for his inner child, singing about reconnecting with the pure love he felt from his mother and father as a boy. Now the song has a childlike animated video to match.
Lidell himself became a father recently, and so did Leolyxxx, the artist who created the video. According to NPR, the video is meant to recreate the disorientation and wonder a child feels upon experiencing the world for the first time.
Musically, “Walk Right Back” sits firmly within the rattling, organic R&B sound Lidell started working with on 2005’s Multiply, setting aside the retro-futuristic funk of last year’s self-titled album for the moment. Check it out below.
