Eddie Vedder and Chris Martin Sang Pearl Jam and Patti Smith at the Global Citizen Festival

Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Coldplay‘s Chris Martin teamed up for a three-song set at yesterday’s Global Citizen Festival, the annual event in New York City’s Central Park that promotes efforts to end extreme poverty. The two frontmen played Pearl Jam’s “Nothingman,” Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” and Patti Smith’s “People Have The Power.”

Later, with Rihanna running late for her headlining set, Martin played a solo cover of Prince‘s “Raspberry Beret” with an extra verse about waiting for her.

Other performers at Global Citizen’s fifth edition included Kendrick Lamar, Metallica, Usher, Demi LovatoMajor Lazer, and Yusuf / Cat Stevens. Martin is under contract to curate Global Citizen through 2030. The festival is free, but many attendees earn tickets by taking actions such as calling lawmakers and sharing petitions on issues like health, hunger, water, and women’s rights.
