Bloc Party Share New Song “Stunt Queen”

Earlier this year, Bloc Party released fifth album HYMNS, an uplifting collection of nimble, synth-inflected rock songs. They’ve now shared a new song, “Stunt Queen,” which is debuting in honor of their upcoming show at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It’s the first song they’ve written with their new line-up, featuring Justin Harris on bass guitar and Louise Bartle on drums. The track is reminiscent of the quick-paced and sputtering songs from Silent Alarm that initially boosted them to fame. There’s a gurgling synth line leading the song, alongside Kele Okereke’s confident voice and scraping blasts of rhythm-inflected guitars, the instrumentation growing more intense as the song goes on. Listen to it below, and find their tour dates.

In a press release, Okreke shared a few words about the song:

“‘Stunt Queen’ has its genesis in an idea that dates back to the Australian tour we did at the start of 2016. It was an idea that we worked on at sound checks and was one of the first ideas to come along after Justin and Louise joined the band. Playing the Hollywood Bowl feels like a significant milestone for the band, and we wanted to mark it with a new release. We’re excited to be playing our biggest ever headline gig in the U.S. and releasing new material in the same week.”
