Young Thug (a.k.a. Jeffery) and Wyclef Jean’s ‘Elton’ Is the Best Song of the Week

Endless isn’t the only August release with an obtuse rollout. We’re also getting Jeffery, the latest Young Thug release that’s not Hy!£UN35, later this month. And we’re actually supposed to be calling Young Thug “No, My Name is Jeffery”: 300 label head Lyor Cohen announced the name change on the Rap Radar podcast, while Young Thug confirmed on Travi$ Scott’s Beats 1 show .WAV Radio that he’s “Jeffery for one f**king week. If [he] don’t sell a 100,000 copies.”

If you actually need another reason to spend money on Jeffery, consider his new Wyclef Jean-featuring miracle “Elton.” At almost six minutes, it’s the best thing the former Fugee has contributed to in a while. Wheezy and Cassius Jay’s aquatic production has the grand immersion of the mixtape Claude Debussy never got to make. Jean reverently croons “Jeffery” like Thugger’s in line for the throne of Zamunda. And, yes, there’s Young Thug himself, belching along with the chorus and waxing romantic (“It don’t matter what I do next / Imma know that you the best, best, best, yes”).

“Elton” is the best thing since, well, Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles” from last week — but there’s those two songs and then everything else. Listen to “Elton” below. Jeffery is due August 26.
