The Weeknd, who’s working on his Beauty Behind the Madness follow-up, has donated $250,000 to the Black Lives Matter Network. The singer himself didn’t announce this, but two sources confirmed his gesture to the FADER.

The Toronto star has made his support of the Black Lives Matter movement known following Alton Sterling’s murder. He retweeted protest comments and expressed his own outrage.

Just a few days ago, the Weeknd donated $50,000 to the University Of Toronto in order to fund a new Ethiopic Studies program. Although he maintains an enigmatic persona, the Weeknd has been open about his Ethiopian heritage.
