Kurt Vile Recorded a Country-Folk Rendition of the ‘Squidbillies’ Theme Song

He's the latest musician to cover the tune this season, after Father John Misty

Kurt Vile took his turn covering the Squidbillies theme song today, one week after Father John Misty shared his own cover in the premiere episode of the Adult Swim show’s tenth season. Vile’s, as is to be expected, has a minimalist-folk inflection, but doesn’t stray too far from the original.

Every new episode of Squidbillies this season will feature a different cover: Coming up is Sharon Van Etten, the B-52’s, Jimmy Cliff, and Rebecca Schiffman. Neko Case and Lambchop have also tackled the 30-second intro in the past. Compare and contrast below, and also check out a behind-the-scenes clip of Vile recording the theme.
