British pop superstar ZAYN, a.k.a. former One Direction member Zayn Malik, was a no-show at tonight’s Capital Summertime Ball, a one-day music festival held at London’s Wembley Stadium. In a message posted to Twitter, the Mind of Mine singer said that he was forced to cancel his performance after suffering from severe anxiety.

“Unfortunately my anxiety that has haunted me throughout the last few months around live performances has gotten the better of me,” Malik’s statement reads. “With the magnitude of the event, I have suffered the worst anxiety of my career.” Wembley seats 90,000 people, and Summertime Ball tickets were sold out.

“I know those who suffer anxiety will understand and I hope those who don’t can empathize with my situation,” the note concluded.

Other performers at Summertime Ball included Nathan Sykes, Mike Posner, Craig David, and pop quartet Little Mix. Zayn’s presence at the event was already the subject of tabloid gossip, since Little Mix member Perrie Edwards is Malik’s ex-fiancée.
