PJ Brings the Heat on Summer Anthem-to-Be ‘Cold’

“All I need is a little time,” PJ warns rather than pleads on her new single, “Cold.” And it shouldn’t take much, given the material she’s been dropping lately — all soaked with hit potential. And not too surprisingly, the Atlantic Records songwriter-turned-performer does know a thing or two about hits, with some pretty impressive writing credits to her name, on noteworthy bangers like Chris Brown and Tyga’s “Bitches N Marijuana” and the Wiz Khalifa/Nicki Minaj collab “True Colors,” the latter of which earning her a GRAMMY nod. In addition to further writing credits for R.Kelly, B.O.B., Meek Mill, and Trey Songz, PJ’s vocals have been featured on tracks from Skizzy Mars and Ty Dolla $ign.

But don’t get it twisted, PJ won’t be known for her work with other artists for long. She’s not afraid to compete with the big name acts she’s already been behind: “Ain’t it crazy I’m not scared / I got it where I want yeah.” And if you don’t think she’s ready, she’s cool with that: “You can disagree, but I don’t care / Got more soul than I got flare,” PJ declares over bouncing keys and bass, too busy doing her thing to entertain the haters. But it sounds like PJ, a self proclaimed “underdog,” has it taken care of in both the soul and flare departments — PJ’s vocals smoke and sizzle from minimal percussion. “You can’t stop what’s ice cold,” she declares, before bright swells of tight vocal harmony and horns emerge to remind us that she’s just getting started. Because we all know what’s cooler than being cool…
