“Janie in Love” was a high point of Marissa Nadler‘s recent LP, Strangers, and the song now has a visual directed and animated by Nadler herself. Like her earlier video for “All the Colors of the Dark,” “Janie” appears in ghostly grayscale, mixing transparent layers of eery stop-action animation with live footage and photographic negatives. It seems like a relic of a prior century, even moreso when Nadler sings, “Another time, another place / We would’ve been golden.”
Strangers is out now from Sacred Bones/Bella Union. Watch “Janie in Love” below.
