Lydia Loveless Needs a Little Bit ‘Longer’ (to Get Over You) on New Single

Alt-country singer Lydia Loveless has announced plans to release the follow-up to 2014’s Somewhere Else on August 19 via Bloodshot Records. According to Stereogum, she nixed an entire album’s worth of material before arriving at Real. She comments:

Because I feel like I spent my formative years flopping around like a fish, masking pain with substance abuse and somewhat ashamed of who I was — a hayseed, a phony, I felt — it was absolutely necessary for me to become a stronger, more confident human, or I was going to die. Real is my sort of love letter to that realization, that my existence was just as valid as any other.

Loveless has also shared the album’s first single, “Longer,” a distortion-heavy yet gently vulnerable plea for an ex-lover to give her some extra space to move past the broken relationship. Listen here, and check out the album’s track list below.
