D?WN (a.k.a. Dawn Richard) is presumably still working on RED•emp•tion, the follow-up to 2015 standout Blackheart. Although there’s still no release date on the horizon, she’s whetted fans’ appetites with her newest single “Honest,” produced by Brooklyn’s own Kingdom. The track is an intimate number that sees D?WN cooing over nocturnal synths.
The song seems like a pretty accurate glimpse into RED•emp•tion‘s overall direction. “It’s a mixture of aggression and vulnerability,” she told us regarding the RED Era. “I think it’s kind of my swan song. It’s this redemption, this freedom that I have.”
