DJ Tennis Explores Orchestral Themes and Existential Questions on ‘Divisions’

For “Divisions” off of his latest EP, Divisions/Chirality, Italy-born and Berlin-based DJ Tennis (a.k.a. Manfredi Romano) recruited some new key players: Danish singer and guitarist Jeppe Kjellberg, one-half of avant-pop outfit WhoMadeWho, and Canadian violinist Sophie Trudeau of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-la-la Band. The result is more appropriate for the windswept Scottish highlands than a darkened dance floor, as Trudeau’s hoary string work adds a sense of luxurious foreboding to Kjellberg’s paranoid murmurings, with DJ Tennis adding just a hint of momentum with the barest percussion. Listen and find the EP’s track list below, and get Divisions/Chirality when it arrives via Romano’s label Life and Death on April 1.
