Both Wilco and Red Hot Chili Peppers Covered David Bowie Songs Last Night

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 05: Musicians Anthony Kiedis, Flea, Chad Smith and Josh Klinghoffer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform onstage during the 'Feel The Bern' fundraiser concert to benefit presidential candidate Bernie Sanders at the Ace Theater Downtown LA on February 5, 2016 in Los Angeles, California. Two rock bands paid tribute to the late, great David Bowie in separate concert appearances on opposite coasts last night.

At Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, Wilco launched their two-day stay with a rendition of the 1969 Bowie cut “Space Oddity,” with Jeff Tweedy guiding the interstellar track around the universe and back again (his vocals crack a couple of times in a way that’s just a total gut-punch of emotion).

Meanwhile, at their benefit concert for Bernie Sanders in Los Angeles last night, Red Hot Chili Peppers ripped through a cover of the Aladdin Sane track “Cracked Actor,” complete with a hybridized Sanders/Bowie drum cover (per NME). “Well we f**ked up on that,” frontman Anthony Kiedis joked as the song came to a close.
