Kate Boy’s debut album ONE came out last November, and after crushing the pop world under their synth-wrapped fists, the half Swedish, half Australian duo are now intent on conquering the world of cover songs.
Trying their hand at Edwyn Collins’ “A Girl Like You” — that seminal Scot-pop hit first released in 1994 — the dark-pop pair have drenched their version of the song in relentless drum machines, much in the style of their own singles. Kate Akhurst’s voice, both emotionally weighted and light enough to ride the beat with panache, resonantly seals the entire thing together.
