Country icon Merle Haggard has been forced to cancel an upcoming performance at the Inn of the Mountain Gods in New Mexico on January 30 due to health issues.

In a tweet, Haggard’s youngest son, Ben Haggard, confirmed that his father had developed double pneumonia again. He had been hospitalized in December of last year, forcing the musician to reschedule the rest of his concerts for the year. At the time, the pneumonia was so bad that Merle told SiriusXM in an interview that he “was nearly dead.”

SPIN will track this situation as it develops.
