EL VY Dance the Blues With Cover of David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ on ‘Colbert’

With news of the legendary David Bowie’s passing yesterday, the collaborative project EL VY (Matt Berninger of the National and Brent Knopf of Menomena) paid tribute with their performance on last night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Of the roughly 374 Bowie songs they could have plausibly chosen to cover, they went with his 1983 chart-topper “Let’s Dance,” and while Berninger never gets quite far enough under the moonlight, the serious moonlight with his vocals, the rendition does come with an admirable enthusiasm and a decently funky tambourine-stomp breakdown.

Watch here, along with EL VY’s performance of the title track from their Return to the Moon album.
