Charlie Puth and Selena Gomez (Wisely) Cash in on the Trop-House Trend With ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore’

When the track list for the Golden Globe-nominated Charlie Puth’s debut album – Nine Track Mind, out on Friday — was first released last fall, it very noticeably did not feature the very smart new Selena Gomez collaboration it now sports. “We Don’t Talk Anymore” wisely trades verses between the two pop forces, cashing in on the trop-house trend so big even the New York Times felt the need to chime in.

Though Puth’s track record is disappointing to this point – the tepid “See You Again,” the dismal Meghan Trainor duet “Marvin Gaye” — there’s something crackling about Gomez’s slick, punchy lines that make “We Don’t Talk Anymore” a worthy, breezy slice of pop. Hear it below.
