Tchami’s Got Spiritual Questions on Heavy ‘The After Life’ EP

French producer Tchami is often associated with the term “future house,” a label he coined off the cuff and then invariably got permanently tagged with. (See Los Angeles’ Wax Motif and “G-house.”) Plus, some parts of his The After Life EP, due December 22 via his own recently announced imprint, Confession, are certainly more future-minded than retro-leaning, like the weighty bass lines swung with like kettlebells through “Missing You” and “Superlativ,” wordless except for the deeply pitched-down command to “Drop that!” Elsewhere on The After Life, he reaches beyond such genre definitions, as on “Alone,” a borderline piano ballad sandbagged with turned-down low-end courtesy of frequent Weeknd collaborator Illangelo. Listen to the EP here, pre-order it on iTunes, and find the full track list and album art below.
