Kurt Vile and Dinosaur Jr.’s J Mascis Get ‘Pretty Pimpin’ on ‘Colbert’

Update: As a part of Three Lobed Recordings‘ new project, Parallelograms, Kurt Vile has a couple of new songs available to stream: “Pretty Boy,” “Way Back Then,” “Red Apples for Tom Scharpling,” and “NPR Reject.” His LP is split with singer-songwriter Steve Gunn, who contributed two tracks to their record. Other musicians in the project include Yo La Tengo, Thurston Moore, Hiss Golden Messenger, and William Tyler. Stream Vile and Gunn’s full record below.

Kurt Vile has been spending quality time with Dinosaur Jr. this week; he was one of many guests to show up for their just-wrapped New York City residency. Last night, though, Dino frontman J Mascis acted as Vile’s special guest for a late-night performance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Playing “Pretty Pimpin’,” the first single from b’lieve i’m goin down… (one of SPIN‘s 50 Best Albums of 2015), Vile had Mascis singing backup vocals — a subtler position than expected for the well-known guitar talent.
