Funky blues-rock evangelists Alabama Shakes — and in particular, their rollicking frontwoman Brittany Howard, who surprise-released her solo debut as Thunderbitch in September — have had about as good of a year as a rock band could hope for in 2015. The band’s sophomore album, Sound & Color, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 200 Albums list, and earned an Album of the Year Grammy nomination; one of five nominations for the band.
This Saturday, in the Shakes’ first televised performance of 2016, they will be featured on the late night live show Austin City Limits alongside Vintage Trouble. Given the rough year that ACL has had, losing founder Bill Arhos this past April, a little blues feels like a pretty appropriate way to cap the year. Watch the band’s slow, soulful performance of the S&C single, “This Feeling,” here as a prelude to the show.
