M.I.A. dropped an intriguing short film, “Matahdatah Scroll 01 ‘Broader Than a Border,'” that she shot in West India and Africa this past summer, and her latest single continues that country-straddling trend. “Borders,” which is now streaming on Spotify, features a bazaar of horns under a wonky, thudding beat, and an alluring grab bag of unexpected sounds. In other words, it sounds like an M.I.A. song. Still no word on the release date for her big project, Matahdatah, but you can hear the new track below.
