Since releasing his stunning, sun-warmed collection of dancehall tracks Where We Come From, Popcaan has made unprecedented inroads outside of his traditionally ecstatic, yet cloistered community. This year he appeared alongside Young Thug on Jamie xx‘s “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times)” and he’s also apparently drawn the attention of Drake and Rihanna at various turns, so it’s to even more excitement than usual that he’s releasing his new single “Dem Wah Fi Know.”
Produced by The Fader and directed by Focus Creeps, the video pairs Popcaan’s buoyant new track with a brief monologue about duppy spirits, “dark shadows” that linger around, but at the tail end, the narrator says that they can “overcome that kinda spirit.” It’s no surprise if you know his music, it always felt like Popcaan would beat evil in the end.
