Marc Maron always gets the most interesting guests to appear on his acclaimed interview podcast, WTF With Marc Maron, but his latest was especially noteworthy for music fans — iconic audio engineer and the frontman of Big Black/Shellac, Steve Albini. Over the course of an more than 90 minutes, Albini discussed his impressive career, including his production work on Nirvana’s In Utero and the Pixies’ Surfer Rosa. (“Whatever,” Albini says of the Pixies. “They were fine. As a band, I thought their music was kind of unremarkable.”)

They also discuss why Albini shuns the term “producer,” hearing the Ramones for the first time, and take a moment to yell at Maron’s neighbor for using a leaf blower while they’re trying to record. Listen to the full episode here.
