James Blake Shares Somber and Synthy Cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound of Silence’

James Blake returned to his long-running BBC Radio 1 residency on Thursday night, but the show featured more than just a DJ set this time around. His fellow Fall Creek Choir Boy — Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon — stopped by the show for a chat, discussing, among other things, his Eaux Claires music festival and doing a Bob Dylan impression.

Elsewhere in the show, Blake shared a stark and synth-led cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s iconically austere “The Sound of Silence.” Blake played it in tribute to a friend who died on New Year’s, and it’s just as moving as you would expect. Listen to the whole show over at the BBC’s site.
