Muse’s truest talent as a band might be their ability to make any cover sound like the most natural of Muse originals. To be fair, though, the high drama and steam-blowing synths of CHVRCHES’ The Bones of What You Believe highlight “Lies” place it pretty square in Muse territory to begin with. In any event, Matt Bellamy and co.’s spin on the bombastic synth-pop jam — for BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge series — does make it sound like it could’ve been a single off Drones, and probably one of the better ones. Listen here, and hope that CHVRCHES return the favor by taking on “Hysteria” or “Madness” sometime soon.
