I’ve always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let’s move on. https://t.co/mx9pfIdnzT

When the 2015 Video Music Award nominations were announced this morning, Nicki Minaj did alright, picking up nominations for Best Hip Hop Video and Best Female Video for “Anaconda,” along with a collaboration nod for “Bang Bang.” But the Pinkprint artist was miffed that she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year, and may have unintentionally(?) started a dispute with Taylor Swift. Minaj fired off a series of tweets (and numerous retweets from fans rallying to her defense) implying that she didn’t get the nod because she wasn’t the right “kind” of artist. “If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,” Minaj tweeted, along with a bunch of shady smile emojis. Swift, who gave Minaj the Swift Seal of Approval, was hurt by the perceived slight. “I’ve done nothing but love & support you. It’s unlike you to pit women against each other [sic],” Swift tweeted in response. “Maybe one of the men took your slot..” “U must not be reading my tweets,” Minaj replied. “Didn’t say a word about u. I love u just as much. But u should speak on this.” Update: Swift issued a nice response to Minaj, saying she wanted Minaj to come up on stage with her should she win the Video of the Year Award. “You’re invited to any stage I’m ever on,” she tweeted. Read the entire exchange, including Swift’s response, below.
If I was a different “kind” of artist, Anaconda would be nominated for best choreo and vid of the year as well. 😊😊😊
