Mac DeMarco has a new mini-LP called Another One coming August 7, but leave it to the jangle-pop weirdo to already start in on something new. Last night, DeMarco announced that he’d be hosting a BBQ in Brooklyn today (July 8) where he’d blast a few new tunes from a car stereo. Some assumed that meant he’d be debuting more material from that forthcoming release, but it in the wee hours of the morning he shared what he’s calling the “BBQ soundtrack” over at the Bandcamp page for his old band Makeout Videotape.
It appears to be a collection of eight upbeat instrumentals called Some Other Ones that sound like they’d sound pretty great blasting from busted car speakers. So if you’re free and in New York, you might want to make your way to 153 Morgan Ave. at 1 p.m. today and hear them in their intended environment. DeMarco will even grill you a hot dog if you bring a food bank donation. But if you can’t make it, fear not, the sunbaked collection is streaming right here.
