Kendrick Lamar Sued Over ‘The Blacker the Berry’ Artwork

Kendrick Lamar is being sued for using the artwork for his To Pimp a Butterfly single “The Blacker the Berry” without permission, Bossip reports.

The photographer, Giordano Cipriani, alleges that he took the image of a mother breastfeeding during a 2011 trip to Africa, and that neither the rapper nor his label asked permission to use the photograph, or paid him for it.

Cipriani filed the lawsuit on July 10 in New York Federal Court and is asking the judge to prevent Lamar from using the image. He’s also requesting damages for the unauthorized use of the image, $150,000 for each time the image was used, and additional cash to pay lawyer fees.
