Dave Grohl Explains Why He Wrote That Fan Letter to Ian MacKaye When He Was a Teen

Last week, former Minor Threat singer Ian MacKaye uncovered something wonderful — an old fan letter a teenaged Dave Grohl had sent him asking for “some numbers of people to get in touch with,” saying, “it would help.” In a video interview with NME, the Foo Fighters frontman explained why he sent the letter — to get in with Dischord Records. Grohl desperately wanted the label to put out his the demo tape from his band at the time, Mission Impossible. It’s a goal that he’s apparently still chasing. “I’m telling you, if the Foos could do a Dischord single, then we could break up. Done deal.” Grohl further explained that he doubted MacKaye kept the note because he saw something in the young musician — he just tended to hoard odds and ends. Watch the whole interview below.
