River City Extension Return From Tragedy With Soaring ‘Man of Conviction’

The piano-and-strings-soaked track comes from foursome's upcoming 'Deliverance' album

“Everything’s changing, people are different,” River City Extension frontman Joe Michelini sings on the band’s new song “Man of Conviction.” Truer now for the band than ever, given the tragic death of drummer Steve Tambone last month. The still-grieving band has decided to carry on as planned with the release of their third LP, Deliverance, an album that still sounds triumphant, even with Tambone’s death obviously casting a shadow over the collection’s ten tracks. “Conviction” is as expansive as the album gets, with its heavy use of strings and piano almost giving it a ’70s rock sense of largesse, with a touch of Counting Crows in the vocal delivery and a little early Vampire Weekend in the drum-thumping breakdown.

Listen to “Man of Conviction” below, and check out the dates for the group’s upcoming headlining tour as well. Deliverance is out March 10 on Anchor & Hope Records.
