The Decemberists are on the promotional circuit for the just-released What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, and as part of their campaign, they appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to play their new album in its entirety. OK, not really — according to Kimmel, the band’s latest LP was really full of musical interpretations of YouTube comments like “I CAN’T BELIEVE I MAKE $5000 A MONTH WORKING FROM HOME CLICK LINK BELOW TO FIND OUT HOW,” “boring boring boring boring boring boring” (done as a “Hey Jude”-style audience singalong, and (of course) “FIRST.” That couldn’t really be the actual album, though, or there’s no way we wouldn’t have given it at least a nine.
Watch the comment-performance above, which officially proves that the band are in that Alanis Morissette zone where anything they play sounds exactly like a Decemberists song regardless of lyrical/thematic content.
